Reflecting on Black History Month: Jennifer Hilaire’s Impact Recognized

As we reflect on Black History Month, we’re proud to highlight one of our partner agency champions who embodies the spirit of leadership and service in Central Florida.

On February 19, U.S. Representative Maxwell Frost hosted the 4th Annual Black History Month Luminary Ceremony at the Heart of West Lakes Wellness Center. The event brought together more than 120 community members to honor Black leaders from across the region, recognizing individuals whose work is making a meaningful and lasting impact.

Among those honored was Jennifer Hilaire of The Desire Foundation, one of our valued partner agencies. As part of the recognition, Rep. Frost read the honorees’ names into the official Congressional Record, a gesture that ensures their contributions are permanently part of our nation’s history. “These leaders come from many fields, but what unites them is a deep commitment to serving others and opening doors for the next generation,” he shared.

Jennifer’s leadership reflects the everyday impact we see through our partner agencies, extending dignity, strengthening communities, and providing vital support to neighbors in need. While Black History Month gives us a dedicated time to honor these stories, their influence continues every day, in every volunteer hour, and in every life touched. We are proud to stand alongside leaders like Jennifer and celebrate her achievements, recognized at the national level, but felt every day throughout Central Florida.

Thank you, Jennifer, for all that you do to help our neighbors facing hunger.
