Since October 2018, First Pentecostal Church has been serving neighbors facing food insecurity in Lake County. Their mission is to reach their community with as much assistance as possible. The church hosts a food distribution on the third weekend of each month and also responds to emergency requests when they arise.
Today, the pantry serves 80–90 families each month, reaching approximately 250–330 individuals. Many of those served are elderly residents, individuals with low incomes, and some members of the unhoused community.
The pantry began as a small operation distributing dry goods to 10–15 families per month using a personal-choice model. As demand grew, the team added refrigeration and freezer units and eventually transitioned to pre-packed food boxes to better serve the increasing number of families.
First Pentecostal Church shares that their partnership with Second Harvest Food Bank has been essential to sustaining their work, helping them access affordable food, participate in food drives, and benefit from occasional grant opportunities. With the help of 25–30 volunteers each month, the pantry continues to provide meaningful support to their community.
We are grateful for their dedication and proud to partner with them in the shared mission of fighting hunger.
