Summer break is the perfect time for students to give back—and many are looking for ways to earn volunteer hours for Bright Futures, Honor Society, Key Club, and other awesome programs. While teens sometimes get overlooked as volunteers, they’re often enthusiastic, capable, and ready to make a difference when given the right opportunities.
Tips for Recruiting and Engaging Student Volunteers:
- Post Opportunities Online:
Spread the word using these free platforms:- Heart of Florida United Way
- VolunteerMatch
- Create the Good (AARP)
- You can also use Facebook Events or Eventbrite to promote your volunteer days.
- Keep It Fun:
- Play music while working
- Turn repetitive tasks into games
- Plan a theme day—think tie-dye, superhero shirts, or crazy socks!
- Give Clear Guidance:
- Assign specific, purposeful tasks
- Share how their help makes a difference
- Encourage regular volunteers to be friendly and inclusive
- State Age Requirements Up Front:
Always include age guidelines and whether adult supervision is needed. For example: “Volunteers must be at least 10 with an adult (18+), or 16 to volunteer independently. We also host ‘Family Nights’ for children ages 5–9.”
